Everneath by Brodi Ashton

Everneath (Everneath, #1)Everneath (Everneath #1)

Team: AHH! I CAN’T DECIDE! DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE!
Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath, where immortals Feed on the emotions of despairing humans. Now she's returned- to her old life, her family, her friends- before being banished back to the underworld... this time forever.

She has six months before the Everneath comes to claim her, six months for good-byes she can't find the words for, six months to find redemption, if it exists.

Nikki longs to spend these months reconnecting with her boyfriend, Jack, the one person she loves more than anything. But there's a problem: Cole, the smoldering immortal who first enticed her to the Everneath, has followed Nikki to the mortal world. And he'll do whatever it takes to bring her back- this time as his queen.

As Nikki's time grows short and her relationships begin slipping from her grasp, she's forced to make the hardest decision of her life: find a way to cheat fate and remain on the Surface with Jack or return to the Everneath and become Cole's...~Goodreads
Everneath is a book that will suck you in from the very first page and keep you captivated until the very last. With it’s brilliant story-line, amazing characters, breath-taking romance and crazy plot twists, it’s basically impossible to it down!

I loved the way this book was written. Told from Nikki’s point of view not only in present tense, but also in past tense, I thought it really gave the storyline a lot of depth. I loved Ashton’s spin on the mythology as well! I loved the idea of Everlivings and that they had this 'need to feed'. I loved these creepy Shade things that were connected to these even more creepy Tunnels... there were so many awesome concepts in this book and i love them all!  Hard.

Brodi Ashton is also incredible a depicting emotions! I FELT everything Nikki did. Like when her ex-boyfriend, Jack, says "Hi" for the first time, my. heart. stopped. Why was I so nervous!? Because Nikki was nervous! Swear to God! And of course Jack was totally gorgeous (EYEBROW PIERCING!! SO. HOT!)  and he was funny and he made me grin like an idiot. Yet he was so utterly broken and all I wanted to do was reach through the pages and hug him.

But then there's Cole, and he’s this sexy, sarcastic, cocky musician who rides a motorcycle. Need I say more?!?! He also has a sweet side and would do almost anything to make sure Nikki was ok, to take away her pain. Underneath Cole’s bad boy exterior he’s just extremely vulnerable and lonely and I think that’s why I fell for him too. I just couldn’t bring myself to hate him. I am most definitely a Cole Cuddler! :P

So DUDES! I honestly can't pick a team! I love both boys. A. LOT. And that's when you know a book is completely amazing. :P

And the ending?!?! I canNOT believe the ending!! I seriously wanted to cry!! My. Heart. My heart!!!  This book did things to my heart! *SOBS* Alls I’m saying is that Beck's better kick some ass in the sequel! You seriously NEED to pick up this book! It's a stunning debut that will not disappoint, i promise!

One of My Favorite Quotes:
His eyes were exactly how I remembered, exactly as I’d pictured every day for the past hundred years. Chocolate. But there was one difference: A single steel post pierced one of his eyebrows.
It wouldn’t have belonged on his face a year ago, but it somehow fit the face looking at me now. This face was edgier. This face had been through something.
He was beautiful. ~ARC Pg. 14

Glimmer by Phoebe Kitanidis

GlimmerGlimmer
Author: Phoebe Kitanidis
Publisher: Balzer + Bray
Pages: 352
Rating: 4 Stars!
What if you forgot your identity and had to rely on other people to tell you who you were?

And what if to discover your true self, you first had to unravel a mystery so big and terrifying you were not sure you’d survive solving it?

When Marshall and Elyse wake up in each other’s arms with zero memory of how they got there or who they are, it’s the start of a long journey through their separate pasts and shared future.

Terrified by their amnesia, the two make a pact to work together to find the answers that could jog their missing memories. As they piece together clues, they discover they’re in the idyllic mountain resort town of Summer Falls, where everyone seems mysteriously happy, but as Marshall and Elyse quickly learn, darkness lurks beneath the town’s perfect facade. Not only is the town haunted by sinister ghosts, but none of its living inhabitants retain bad memories of anything—not the death of Marshall’s mom, not the hidden shame in Elyse’s family, not even the day-to-day anguish of high school.

Lonely in this world of happy zombies, Marsh and Elyse fall into an intense relationship...but the secrets they uncover could be the death of this growing love—and the death of everyone, and everything, they love in Summer Falls.~Goodreads
Glimmer starts off with Him and Her (identities yet to be identified) waking up in bed together. Naked. Without clothes. Completely nude. And completely confused as to how it happened. Talk about a captivating opener! (Also, I totally fell in love with this book the moment I read THIS LINE.)

The story follows these two as they try and figure out who they are and how they ended up together, naked (member that part!?), with their memories a blank slate. May i just say that i loved that they were both totally confused and didn’t know a damn thing that was going on, because I didn’t either! For over half of the book I was like, “What in the HELL is happening?!” (in a good way!)

I really liked learning about Elyse and Marshall little by little. In one chapter a piece of her life would fall into place and the next chapter a piece of his. And, OF COURSE, I LOVED that the story was told in duel perspective! (because that = heaven!) I liked seeing not only how they felt about themselves, but also how they felt about each other! Elyse and Marshall were thrown into this crazy situation that made them both really vulnerable and they had to learn to trust each other completely. I think that helped their relationship to build up slowly and it just felt totally natural. It was pretty darn adorable to watch too!

So! Elyse and Marshall are ultimately stuck in the town of Summer Falls, and let's just say it's a pretty interesting town. Creepy, but interesting! Not only does the town itself have a very eerie vibe to it but the towns-people themselves are also a bit...disturbed, shall I say? Everyone is exceptionally happy doodles and they seem to not have a care in the world—they’re kinda like a robot zombie mash-up. And there’s also this thing called a “heat nap” that tends to hit the townsfolk at extremely convenient times. Once Elyse and Marshall find out that it’s not exactly the weather causing the naps...you’ll understand why I say the town is a tad bit creepy.

Learning the town's insane secrets through Elyse and Marshall made it that much more freaky. You guys, THIS TOWN!!! Let's just say i will NOT be vacationing in Summer Falls any time soon! Ghosts and dark magic and cover ups and asylums and a weird homeless lady all add up to one crazy conclusion.

Overall, Glimmer is a mysterious, magical, mind-bender. Action packed and full of menacing entities, it’s sure to keep you on edge! I would most definitely recommend it!

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine! And this week i am waiting on:
Just for Fins (Fins, #3)When Lily Sanderson decided to remain Crown Princess Waterlily of the mermaid kingdom Thalassinia, she knew she couldn’t just coast along in the current. But since she’s spent the last couple of years on land—with gorgeous human Quince by her side—Lily’s not sure she has the fins to lead a kingdom. Even her maddeningly pretentious cousin Dosinia seems to know more about ruling than she does.

But Lily has to dive in deep to keep her promise to Tellin, her mer bond in name only, whose kingdom is suffering in the changing ocean climate. Lily knows this is a seven seas–sized problem: from sea animals dying to oil spills and threats to humans. They’ll need to create some serious waves to make the mer community aware and get it to join together to make things right. Even if that means facing one of the iciest queens in the mer kingdoms.

Just when Lily thinks her double life on land and sea can’t get any more complicated, an ancient mer law might separate Lily and Quince after all. It feels as if the pair is up against a solid tsunami wave!

In this third installment in the series that began with Forgive My Fins and Fins Are Forever, Lily will have to find a way to balance safety and justice for the mer people as well as for the humans she loves.~Goodreads
HUZZAH! MOAR QUINCE! That is all.

Like I hadn’t noticed. “This may be hard for you to believe, but I have no desire to stare at your ass.”

In Too Deep by Amanda Grace

In Too Deep
In Too Deep
Author: Amanda Grace
Publisher: Flux
Pages: 240
Rating: 4 Stars
I never meant for anyone to get hurt. All I wanted to do that night was make a play for Carter Davis. His heartless rejection was mortifying, but people got the wrong idea when they saw me leaving his bedroom, crying. That’s how rumors of rape started.

Now girls at school are pouring out their sympathy to me. Guys too. But not everyone’s on my side. The school has become a war zone and the threats are getting scary. What began as poetic justice has morphed into something bigger-forcing me to make a terrible choice.~Goodreads

*Takes deep breath*

In Too Deep is one of those books where everything goes down hill so fast and the next thing you know you’re scared to read the next sentence in fear things will get even worse and then you just want to curl up in a corner and never pick the book up again but the writings really good and there’s this boy named Nick so you pick it up and keep reading and you just shake your head the whole time and wish you would’ve stayed in that corner.

The beginning of In Too Deep was so adorably perfect. The main character Sam comes up with this half-baked scheme to make her best friend, Nick, jealous.  She’s trying to find out if Nick has feelings for her...like more than just friendly feelings for her...yeah, you know the kind! Good intentions, bad...execution.

The way Sam went about everything in this book was so completely wrong. I wanted to reach through the pages and slap some sense into her! She puts this huge lie into circulation because ultimately she just shakes her head in confirmation, even though she doesn't know what she's confirming. When she does find out what she confirmed, she doesn’t even try to set it right...she just...goes along with it. And even when she’s confronted, point blank, by Nick...she doesn’t tell him. WHY!? If she could tell anyone, it’s Nick!! He’s trustworthy and funny and adorable and protective and cute and her best. FREAKING. Friend! What the hell?! I just couldn’t understand her.

She totally ruined this one dude’s reputation. And sure, he was an ass, and he did some rude things to people and I found myself thinking maybe he did deserve This fate. But as I read on...this kid lost everything. His friends, his dignity, respect...so I actually felt really bad for him.

And the whole time I just kept asking myself if people in the real world are really as idiotic and insensitive as Sam? What the HELL was she thinking!? All I wanted was for her to stop being stupid and just TELL THE TRUTH. GAAAH!

Yet. Yet, I think that’s what made this book so damn good. My heart was in my throat the whole time. I was anxious while reading every chapter. I cringed. I swore. I almost cried. Almost. I was literally SCREAMING for Sam to tell the truth!! For her to just TELL NICK. For Nick to trust her, believe her.

The ending of this book was like a kick to the gut. It hurt me to read the last couple of chapters. It seriously made my heart all achy. I felt like I lost something, someone. BUT I'll stop right there before I give anything away!

Overall, In Too Deep was an intense story about what happens not necessarily when you lie, but when you withhold the truth. And boy do the consequences suck. If you like feeling upset and emotional, angry and frustrated, then this book is for you. If you don’t like main characters who make horrible choices and endings that make you do this: O_O !!?! then this book is not for you.

A Million Suns by Beth Revis

A Million Suns (Across the Universe, #2)
A Million Suns (AtU #2)
Author: Beth Revis
Publisher: Razorbill
Pages: 386
Source: Magical Urban Fantasy Reads ARC Tour
Rating: 5 Seriously Outstanding Stars!
Godspeed was fueled by lies. Now it is ruled by chaos.
It's been three months since Amy was unplugged. The life she always knew is over. And everywhere she looks, she sees the walls of the spaceship Godspeed. But there may just be hope: Elder has assumed leadership of the ship. He's finally free to enact his vision - no more Phydus, no more lies.
But when Elder discovers shocking news about the ship, he and Amy race to discover the truth behind life on Godspeed. They must work together to unlock a puzzle that was set in motion hundreds of years earlier, unable to fight the romance that's growing between them and the chaos that threatens to tear them apart.
In book two of the Across the Universe trilogy, New York Times bestselling author Beth Revis mesmerizes us again with a brilliantly crafted mystery filled with action, suspense, romance, and deep philosophical questions. And this time it all builds to one mind-bending conclusion: They have to get off this ship.~Goodreads
THIS REVIEW IS SEMI-SPOILERY IF YOU HAVEN’T READ ACROSS THE UNIVERSE!

A Million Suns is a MILLION times BETTER than Across the Universe! And that's saying a lot because AtU was pretty damn amazing! Beth Revis upped the suspense, doubled the danger and created a sense of urgency that made this book intense! It was simply phenomenal.

A Million Suns picks up where Across the Universe left off, leaving Elder in charge to run the ship. And he’s trying so hard to be the leader that Godspeed needs but between trying to prevent riots, trying to protect Amy and trying to pinpoint another murderer, he’s got his hands a little full. And on top of all of that, with the population off of Phydus, Godspeed goes into complete and utter chaos. People aren't working, they're boycotting the Eldest system and they're getting violent. I felt really bad for Elder, he was so completely overwhelmed and frustrated. All i wanted to do was get him pantsless and give him a nice relaxing massage.(WHAT!? Amy saw him in his undies too!) Anyway, I personally thought he was doing a good job! (buuut maybe i'm not a fair judge because I absolutely love him!)

In the mean time, Amy’s given clues and messages that are meant to steer her towards Godspeed’s biggest secret. And if I haven’t mentioned this before, I’ll say it now, Amy is smart as FREX! The only way to explain how she figures everything out is that she’s basically a genius. And dudes! We also find out that Amy's BAD. ASS. She threatens Luthor like nobody’s business. I was thoroughly impressed with her intimidation skills. Like damn. (Speaking of Luthor, he is a frexing creep! I’m glad someone stuck him up with 3 Phydus patches. Just sayin’.)

*Sighs* Amy and Elder’s relationship is the sweetest little romance ever. It just has this innocence to it, I don’t even know how to explain it. It’s just super frexing adorable! And OMG! That kiss by the pond?! *swoons*

As for the ending!? HOLY SHITE! The ship is going to land!?! AHHH!! Shades of Earth canNOT get here fast enough! A Million Suns was frexing brilly and you’d have to be completely loons not to love it! Go pick it up NOW!

P dot s- I missed Harley...HARD! and I fell in love with this quote in which Amy talks about him:

“I get lost in the image—there’s Harley’s face, and the stars, and the tiny koi fish swimming around his ankle. There are all the memories. How can someone I knew for so short a time have left such an incredible print on my soul? Seeing him look this way, so happy and free, makes me remember that something about Harley, that spark, that joy, that something that makes me wish he was still here, now.” ♥♥♥

Until I Die (Revenants, #2)
“Okay, I’ll pose for you,” I conceded. “But under no circumstances will any article of clothing leave my body while I am in your studio.”
“And if you’re elsewhere?” he asked, breaking into a sly smile.
I pulled my flower dictionary out of my book bag and found the picture of the flowers—they were oak-leaved geraniums.  “True friendship,” I read, smiling as Georgia walked up behind me. “Those are pretty,” she announced, leaning down to smell them.
“They’re from Violette,” I said, watching for her reaction.
“They look like weeds,” she replied.
Ooooh, Jules & Georgia! Ha! They’re both extremely hilarious AND they’re both major flirts! They’d make excellent wingmen or...um wing people?? Anyway, I’m pretty sure that they could make anyone fall for them because they just radiate charisma! I love them and they were one of my favorite things about Until I Die! :)

The Raft by S.A. Bodeen

The RaftThe Raft
Author: S.A. Bodeen
Publisher: Feiwel & Friends
Pages: 231
Rating: 3.5 Stars!
Robie, 16, lives with her family on the Midway atoll, a group of islands in the middle of the Pacific. Her parents are scientists; it’s an isolated life. Robie enjoys visiting her aunt in Hawaii – she gets back and forth on a cargo plane that brings supplies to Midway.

During a visit, her aunt is called to the mainland for a work emergency, leaving Robie to get home on her own. On her flight back to Midway the cargo plane hits nasty weather, and goes down. It’s just Robie, the pilot, and Max, a co-pilot she’s never met till this flight, on board. Robie is pulled aboard a raft by Max, who is injured and slipping in and out of consciousness. They have a bag of candy and very little water between them. When they finally reach an island that seems abandoned, Robie hopes they’ll be found quickly. But she’s not sure she was even on the flight manifest. Her parents must be looking for her…aren’t they?

In THE RAFT, S.A. Bodeen creates a hair-raising suspense story that will have readers agonizing over the same question as Robie -- how long can they survive?~Goodreads

When Robie gets on a last minute cargo flight back to her homeland she really has no idea what she's in for. This type of plane can only hold a specific amount of weight-meaning that all passengers and their cargo NEED to be weighed before take off. Robie unfortunately sleeps through that part.

That’s actually one thing I noticed about this book, Robie slept a lot. She would be doing something and then all of the sudden drift off or be startling awake. I personally think it kind of took away from the story a bit. Scenes lacked detail because she just kinda...fell asleep!

But any who! There’s this terrible storm and down goes the plane. But luckily the co-pilot, Max, is there to literally smack her out of the situation. (Yes, he LITERALLY SLAPS HER! I kinda loved him for it. Ha!) He also gets the life raft (the infamous raft!) inflated and pushes Robie out of the plane.

Then it’s just Robie, Max, some Skittles and the raft...dun dun DUNN!

Gosh, you guys. That would suck so bad. To be stuck in the middle of the ocean, with nothing. I would freak the eff out. I wasn’t even there and I WAS freaking the eff out! What the hell would I even do?! I give Robie so much credit. She had to figure out how to patch the raft, catch fish, not freeze to death, and collect water, not only for herself but Max as well.

Max. I don’t even know what to say about Max. I just...he...whoa. I started out thinking out one thing about him and once I finished the book...just whoa. That is all.

There's also this one twist. This one crazy ass twist, towards the end of the book that’ll change everything. It will completely change how you look at Robie, how you look at Max and how you look at their situation. Everything that has happened will make complete sense. The twist was the best part, in my opinion!

But there were some things that didn’t quite sit right with me. The seal scenes (yes, seals) were heartbreaking and made me semi-queasy. And I found all the descriptions of the birds and their patterns a little pointless. There were TOO many details about the birds. I feel like it really slowed down the pace of the story. The ending was also a little abrupt for me.

Overall, though, The Raft is a frightening survival story that has intense realism and chilling descriptions. You’ll possibly even find yourself a little bit scared to take your next flight! (I know I am. *gulp*)
