Desert Island Books :)

The wondrous girlies over at The YA-Sisterhood came up with the brilliantest idea ever; Desert Island Books. Holy crud muffs when I first found out i could only pick FIVE YA books, i wanted to cry. CRY I SAY! How the hecks would I narrow it down to just five?!!?

But since I don’t read adult books...I can pick 10 YA books!! YAY!!  But oh man, oh man, oh man, which 10??!  After much thought, consideration and tears here are the TEN books I’d bring with me if I’d have to live the rest of my days on a desert island! (WOOT! annd a series only counts as one!! HUZZAAH!)

The Shade Series by Jeri Smith-Ready!I would not be able to live the rest of my life without Logan in it.  This is my all-time favorite series and I would die if I couldn’t have it with me! SCREW ALL THE OTHER BOOKS I JUST NEED THESE!!! (just kidding...i’m going to pick more...but that statement was for effect...to show how much I love them...did it work?)

The Firelight Series by Sophie Jordan! GAH! Firelight is so sexy and angsty and amazing, it makes dragons cool as eff and not nerdy (no offense!) Then, then, then Vanish comes along and it's 10x MORE angsty and amazing...and Cassian & Will...’nuff said.

The Soul Screamers Series by Rachel Vincent! Scary and sexy and creepy and awesome, it's impossible not to get hooked on this series! Annnnd... If I Die...Tod.... ‘nuff said.

Where She Went by Gayle Forman! Oh. My. Goodness. *sniffle* This book is a masterpiece. WSW is all Adam all the time. He's just so broken and messed up and hurt in this book that your heart breaks with each page. I could re-read it a thousand times.

Shattered Souls by Mary Lindsey! The concept of this book, Protectors and Speakers, is just so freaking amazetastic! I was mesmerized from page one. I NEED this to become a series, I NEED MORE Alden & Lenzi, I NEED more soul sharing AND I NEED more eerie ghostly encounters. EEEEEP, I love this book, make sure you go buy it in December!

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi! Adam Kent. ‘Nuff said. NAAAh, I’m just playin’. This book is written flawlessly and the emotion behind each word, paragraph, and page made my heart melt. Juliette is so unbelievably awesome and the whole book is just phenomenal. I am DYING for the second book in this series!! OH THANK HEAVENS IT’S A SERIES!!!

Enclave by Ann Aguirre! Kick-ass dystopian at its finest. Some of the best fight scenes ever to be written in the history of ever. Love, love, love this book.

Angel Burn Trilogy by L.A. Weatherly! Alex Kylar. ‘Nuff said. (do you get the impression that I’m just picking books based on the fictional boys in them? Because...if so, you wouldn’t be too far off base :P)  No, but seriously. This book was mind-blowing because of the crazy twist on angel lore. There was a epic road trip, massive amounts of angst and a ending that now has me anxiously awaiting the sequel, Angel Fire.

Ripple by Mandy Hubbard! The cover, the story, Cole; all amazing.  Annnd hopefully maybe probably there'd be mermaids in the water around this island i was stranded on. And hopefully maybe probably I could become friends with said mermaids, yes? Well either way, this is the book I'd snuggle with and stare at and talk to like it was my best friend, because it is fantabulous.

Annnnd the 10th book would haveta be...ahh...fleep floop flarp!! I don’t know! So many choices!! Am I allowed to bring a survival book? No? okay...um...lemme think...oH MY GOSH! My 10th book would be a LIBRARY BOOK, becaaaause, they would be all, “You only have 2 weeks to read it, Missy.” Oh my gosh!!!!! i could be on to something here!!! So... if it was a library book, I could CONSTANTLY be changing books, right?!!?!? DOES THIS WORK?!! DID I SCAM THE SYSTEM?!!?  HUZZAH! I win.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I read Beautiful Disaster last week and I freakin’ loved it. It was funny, and sexy and crazy and sexy and angsty and sexy. GAH! It was just so, so good! And it was also the first e-book that i've ever read! WHOOP! Annnd it really needs to come out in hard or paperback so I can snuggle with it. So, this week you get more than 2 sentences because this book was just too bomb to narrow down the choices!
“Don’t you remember, Travis? You ruined her sweater.”
Travis smiled. “I ruin a lot of sweaters.”
“Gross,” I muttered. ~p. 5
"Who can tell me which President had a cross-eyed wife with a bad case of the uglies?” Chaney asked. ~p. 7
“I’m going to kill David Lapinski!” America announced, shaking snow out of her hair as she approached.
“Direct hit!” Shepley laughed. American shot him a warning glare and his laugh turned into a nervous chuckle. “I mean...what an asshole.” ~p. 215
Guysss go buy this e-book! You will not be disappointed!! Like Amy from over at The YA Sisterhood said, "It's like crack!" Once you start reading it, you won't be able to stop!
Waiting on Wednesday
Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine! And this week i am waiting on:
Illuminated
Some loves are not made to last . . . Like Romeo and Juliet, Heloise and Abelard were doomed from the start, and their romance was destined to pass into history. Yet when sixteen-year-old Callie Martin discovers a diary hidden within an antique book, their story—and hers—takes on another life. For the diary leads Callie to the brilliant and handsome August, who is just as mysterious as the secret the diary hides. Their attraction is undeniable. As the two hunt down the truth behind the diary—and that of Heloise and Abelard’s ancient romance—their romance becomes all-consuming. But Callie knows it can’t last . . . love never does. Will their love that burns as bright as a shooting star flame out, or will these star-crossed lovers be able to defy history?~Goodreads
I shall admit I was initially drawn to this book simply because of its cover. It. Is. Gorgeous. The guy, the light, THE GUY. His name is August. Are you kidding me!? That is so sexy! I’m already in love with him. Oh and I guess the story sounds pretty good too! :P
Fated romance always gets my heart-a-flutterin'! So can we fast forward to December so i can read this beauteous thing?! Huh? What do you mean i'll just have to wait? Fine. You're right, it will be worth it! :)
Anna Dressed In Blood by Kendare Blake
Anna Dressed In Blood
Author: Kendare Blake
Publisher: Tor Teen
Pages: 320
Rating: 5 Fabulously Bloody Stars!
Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead.
So did his father before him, until he was gruesomely murdered by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father's mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. Together they follow legends and local lore, trying to keep up with the murderous dead—keeping pesky things like the future and friends at bay
When they arrive in a new town in search of a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas doesn't expect anything outside of the ordinary: track, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he's never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, now stained red and dripping with blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home.
But she, for whatever reason, spares Cas's life.~Goodreads
Oh Anna! Where do I even begin? How about with, "I want to lick the cover and snuggle with it every minute." LOOK. AT. IT. Am i drooling? I'm drooling. It's soo perfect. *happy sigh*
There is nothing NOT to love about this book! It’s absolutely hard-core, kick-ass and absolutely impossible to put down!
The main character Cas is one hilarious son of a witch!(Seriously. His mom dabbles in that shizz.) He’s quick witted and sharp and once you find out his full name ---> SWOON. He's pretty much the effin’ bomb at what he does. Pretty sure I’m a total fan girl. (i would def follow him around the country if i could (oh!! and Jonas Brothers reference FOR THE WIN!)) Sorry getting way too gushy!
Back to the story! So Cas arrives in Thunderbay to take care of his next job, a little problem the town folk like to call Anna Dressed in Blood! and Dudes, this line gave me goosies to the extreme:
“I’m going there to kill her. Anna. Anna Korlov. Anna Dressed in Blood.”
BAM!! Did you get ‘em too!?! After that line I was sitting on the edge of my seat giddily awaiting to meet her!!
AND HOLY EFF! She is one scary bitch! Yet, I instantly fell in love with her. The descriptions of her are stunning. Stunning. Stunning. Here.... read two of my favorite descriptions in the history of ever:
“Her hair is shadow-less black, and it moves through the air as though suspended in water, snaking out behind and drifting like reads."~ARC p.76
“They say her throat was cut, and this girl’s throat is long and white. But there is the dress. It’s wet, and red, and constantly moving. It drips onto the ground.”~ARC p.76
FRICKIN' INCREDIBLE RIGHT???! Cas calls her “his goddess of death" and i could not agree with him more. You'd think she'd be this grotesque thing but she’s actually like incredibly gorgeous.(maybe I’m just weird?) But, seriously, the imagery in this book.... *dies* so phenomenal.
I could NOT get enough Anna. She has this presence that glued me to the page and had me anticipating everything she was going to say next. GAH! I love the girl. I mean sure she's killed a few (actually a lot) of people in her day, but once I found out the reason I instantly felt for her and understood her motives.
But ultimately Cas has gots to get rid of her right? So to take out Anna, he's gonna use his dad’s athame, what he uses on all his ghost hunts. Fast forward some incredible plot points, funny as ass lines and amazeballness later and there's this one part...GAH! Okay, remember to Cas it’s not just a knife. It’s believed to have this special power that sorta kinda connects him to his dad and this one part...*cries* SPOILER- it’s taken from him. WAHH! My heart literally hurt and I think I might have screamed, “NOOOOOOOOOOOO!” It honestly felt like I lost MY most prized possession.  That's the magic of Kendare Blake’s words. I felt so strongly about this little knife because Cas felt so strongly about it. (If that makes sense?)
Okay, now I’ll stop rambling about how effing mind-blowing this book is. There’s just soo much epic awesomeness that goes down... I can’t even...i don’t...just no words. This is easily one of THE BEST BOOKS I have EVER read!! I canNOT wait for the next one!! HuZzAH! A confirmed sequel!!! (Girl of Nightmares! I already love it.)
This book is just in a league of its own. Anna Dressed In Blood has everything, action, blood, ghosts, romance and magic! It's definitely a must read!
Not convinced? Go check out Jena’s awesome review HERE!
Slump =\
Guys, i am in the worst slump of my life! It's almost worse than the time this happened to me:
                          ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓
Almost! Not quite as horrible, but *sobs* it's gettin' there!
I haven't read a book in exactly *looks on goodreads* 19 days. *GULP* that makes me nervous! Sure, i've started approximately 7 books and sure, they're all good, but none of them have held my attention. I feel like i need a good contemporary to get me out of this funk. That's what did it the last time! I was in a major slump-age than BAM! I read Forgotten by Cat Patrick, which is like a contemp/romance/mystery/crazy goodness. Yeah, i need a that
I also have this urge (that sounds weird....not that kind of urge...) to re-read a couple of my favsies! But then i feel like that's taking away from the time i could be reading a new book, that i haven't reviewed yet. If that makes any sense?
Somebody slap me! Maybe that'll help. *waits for slap*
nope, that just hurt.
Ugh, what do you do to get out of a AWFUL SLUMP?
HELP MEEEE!
Vanish by Sophie Jordan
Vanish (Firelight, #2)Vanish (Firelight #2)
Author: Sophie Jordan
Publisher: HarperTeen
Pages: 304
Rating: 5 Fire-breathing Stars! (too lame?)
Team: Oh gosh, oh gosh!! Don’t make me choooose!! Do I have to choose? Team Both Boys!! WOOP!
To save the life of the boy she loves, Jacinda did the unthinkable: She betrayed the most closely-guarded secret of her kind. Now she must return to the protection of her pride knowing she might never see Will again—and worse, that because his mind has been shaded, Will’s memories of that fateful night and why she had to flee are gone.
Back home, Jacinda is greeted with hostility and must work to prove her loyalty for both her sake and her family’s. Among the few who will even talk to her are Cassian, the pride’s heir apparent who has always wanted her, and her sister, Tamra, who has been forever changed by a twist of fate. Jacinda knows that she should forget Will and move on—that if he managed to remember and keep his promise to find her, it would only endanger them both. Yet she clings to the hope that someday they will be together again. When the chance arrives to follow her heart, will she risk everything for love?~Goodreads
With danger, romance, and secrets on every page, Vanish is a fan-FREAKIN’-tastic sequel!
*Sighs* Guess what, my love for Will has slightly vanished! (baha! sorry I had to say it.) Seriously though, after reading Vanish I find myself rooting for a different boy.  *GASP!* Don’t get me wrong, Will is still this needy, adorably passionate boy that would do anything for Jacinda and just wants to save the day. And he still makes my heart do funny fluttery things!
But Cassian shows up in this installment a ton and HOLY DRAKI! He is one sexy, sexy beast! (literally!) :P
He’s cocky and assertive, yet totally charming and sweet! Plus he has this vulnerable side when it comes to the things he cares about. GAH! I LOVE him. If you like Ren from Nightshade by Andrea Cremer then you’ll LOVE Cassian! They’re so much alike it’s crazy. I swear to GOSH they are some how related. Long lost were-draki cousins...or something...
Need some more persuasion? I give you the following:
  • Cassian swoonage part ONE:
    I hold my ground as his thumb grazes my cheek.
    “What are you doing?” I whisper.
    “Touching you.”
    The pads of his fingers slide across my jaw, over my bottom lip, so soft, coaxing and I know what he wants. I feel it in his touch. See it in the way his dark eyes devour me. He breathes my name. ~ARC p.139
SQUEEEEE! The angst! THE ANGST! There are NO. WORDS.
  • Cassian swoonage part TWO:
    His hands slide down my arms to my hands, his fingers threading with mine...
    His thumbs move in small circles of the backs of my hands. ~ARC p. 211
*SWOONS* *DROOLS* *DIES* I have this thing with boys and thumbs and when they move them in circles (too weird?) well, it’s actually QUITE ADORABLE. *DIES AGAIN* Tell me you don’t love this boy now!?!
Moving on to the girls! Jacinda, the main character, is still totally kick-ass and so down to earth. The whole pride looks down on her for leaving in the first place and now that she's back, they all treat her like dirt; but she puts on this strong front and acts like it doesn’t get to her. She’s just a fierce fire ball (get it? Ahaha!) of energy and I love her!! And her last line in the book? Forget about it! She is too cool for Draki school!
Tamra, Jace’s twin sister, is also back and she really grew on me in this one! She basically got awesome and became less of a snob! I loved reading her and Jace's scenes together because they aren't at such odds anymore. They really bond in Vanish and it was cute to see their sisterly interactions!
But I still don’t like their mom...sorry. She’s just too disapproving and unsupportive of Jace and that hurts my heart.
I can’t say too much more with out spoiling the story! But it’s an incredible sequel! There are tons of twists, revelations and plenty of kisses that will keep you on edge until the very last cliffhanger of a paragraph!
This series is one of my absolute favorites and BIG giant tears will be shed when it ends. If you haven’t picked up Firelight yet, I HIGHLY suggest you go do that!!! You will NOT be disappointed!!
P dot s- be prepared to be torn between Will and Cassian! SQUEEE! I loves them both! A LOT! But maybe probably slightly kinda Cassian just a tiny bit more!
Follow Friday & Book Blogger Hop
Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkie, where you hop blog to blog just to say "Hi"! Isn't that CUTE!! (click on the pic to find out more info!
The Follow Friday Question for this week is:
If you could write yourself a part in a book, what book would it be and what role would you play in that book?
GOOOOOOOD QUESTION!!! There are a lot of books I’d want to write myself into, but my #1 choice would have to be Shade by Jeri Smith-Ready! I’m thinking I would definitely be a groupie at a Keeley Brothers concert, annnnd possibly, hopefully, maybe make-out with Logan back stage! :P
Gah! He’s probably just so sexy when he’s done singing/playing his guitar! Zeeeep! Yep, I’d totally make-out with him. No doubt I’d probably just attack him. Errr too much? Or maybe I’d write myself in as the new girl he falls in love with? Either way, as long as I get to interact with him, I’d be happy! :)
(Sorry, Aura! No hard feelings?)
Book Blogger HopBook Blogger Hop is hosted by Jennifer over at Crazy for Books! To find out more click the little picture of the books gettin' down! !
Question of the week:
What’s the LONGEST book you’ve ever read?
I hate to admit it, but it’s gotta be Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer. WAAHH! DON’T JUDGE ME!!!!
Fracture by Megan Miranda
Fracture
Fracture
Author: Megan Miranda
Publisher: Walker Books for Young Readers
Pages: 224
Rating: 4 Stars!
Team: Decker :)
Eleven minutes passed before Delaney Maxwell was pulled from the icy waters of a Maine lake by her best friend Decker Phillips. By then her heart had stopped beating. Her brain had stopped working. She was dead. And yet she somehow defied medical precedent to come back seemingly fine
-despite the scans that showed significant brain damage. Everyone wants Delaney to be all right, but she knows she's far from normal. Pulled by strange sensations she can't control or explain, Delaney finds herself drawn to the dying. Is her altered brain now predicting death, or causing it?
Then Delaney meets Troy Varga, who recently emerged from a coma with similar abilities. At first she's reassured to find someone who understands the strangeness of her new existence, but Delaney soon discovers that Troy's motives aren't quite what she thought. Is their gift a miracle, a freak of nature-or something much more frightening?
For fans of best-sellers like Before I Fall and If I Stay, this is a fascinating and heart-rending story about love and friendship and the fine line between life and death.~Goodreads
I was lucky enough to get a copy of Fracture from Looksie Lovitz a couple of months ago and it was nude. BAHA! Sorry, I mean it didn’t have a cover, but I just wanted to make a naked joke! heehee annnnyway, I read the book and then saw the cover at ALA and was in awe! I think it fits the story so perfectly and I love it!!
But i had a hard time coming up with what to say about this book. When I first finished it, not only was I a little freaked out, I was totally confused as to why I couldn’t come up with how I felt about it. Was it good? Bad? Okay? Great? I wasn’t completely sure at the time.
Fracture is a big pile of crazy, and when I wanted to put it down, there was this pull that kept me reading chapter after chapter. The characters in this book were most definitely likeable and the mystery was frightening! I was thinking about the story for days after I finished it. And that’s how I knew it was pretty amazing. My mind kept going back to the little plot elements and dialogue between characters.
I liked Delaney a lot but it was hard for me to read about her “issues” because they creeped me out! And her journey was just really, really sad & tough & honestly, alarming! But there were plenty of humorous lines that added comic relief to the story:
“You stole my car.”
“Stop calling it a car, it’s a minivan. You’re in denial.”
The little banter above is between Delaney and her best friend, Decker. Ah, Decker....He was super cute, extremely funny but totally stupid! He was so completely blind towards Delaney and his relationship that i wanted to smack him! He had feelings for her but wouldn't act on them and boooooyyyy was I ever rooting for them to just be together!! GAH!!
And speaking of relationships, the story had a some back and forth in the romance department (caught between two guys sorta thing…but not a triangle…gah! Read it to find out what I mean!) And oh my gosh when you meet Troy...zeeep! <-- i'll let you speculate if that's a good "zeep" or a bad "zeep" or a creep "zeep."
But ultimately this book isn’t focused on romance, it’s about life and second chances, and Delaney’s question of “If you had one day left to live, how would you spend it.” (Personally, I would go to my local Chipotle, make out with the hot guy that works there and then scarf down like 2 burritos. After that i'd probably go take a nap at B&N....yeah, that's my dream day!)
Ehem, moving on...check this book out, it’s a great debut by Megan Miranda! It’s dark and twisted with characters that are deeply flawed, emotionally & physiologically but you’ll love ‘em anyway. If you like eerie/creepy/thriller books this one is definitely for you!
Enthralled: Paranormal Diversions
#1. A seagull shits right through me. ~241
#2. I could write an entire song
About the journey
Of that one drop of sweat. ~242
#3. But after a while,
I fall silent
And just watch
My brother and sister
sing without me
smile without me
Live without me.
They’ll be okay.
Without me.~281
I just want to quote this whole damn story to you. Words canNOT express how emotionally captivating it is. Or just how effing amazing Logan’s POV is. The reason why I chose to do 3 quotes is because I think they each show a different side to Logan and he is MY BABE! Read on for basically a mini review ( I could not help myself.)
The first quote is obviously a little funny, but I also think it reemphasizes Logan’s state of being; people can walk through him, & even birds can shit through him, he’s not actually a physical presence. (also when something or someone “shits” on or “through” you, it kind of seems dehumanizing. Idk...maybe that’s how Logan feels, maybe not.)
I picked the second quote because it just shows how connected Logan is to music. He’s constantly looking at the world through this artistic lens, gaining inspiration, applying a harmony or lyrics to any situation. He is crazy passionate about it and I think this line just strengthens the fact. <3
The third quote...what can I even say about it. I personally love it, and it kinda leaves me speechless. Logan evolves so much as a PERSON (not a character) throughout the Shade series and this quote totally shows that. He’s accepting the fact he won’t always be around and acknowledging that life will go on with out him (*SOBS* mine won't...) I could read that quote a bazillion times and it will always cause my soul to hurt.
Karen (you all know Karen…my wife/pimp) warned me I would cry, but I didn’t think I would cry. I have never cried so hard in my whole entire life. (Not even when I read Shade or Shift or Where the Red Fern Grows.) If you don’t like Logan (obviously you are messed up in the head....just kidding...sort of...actually not really...sorry) then it probably won’t impact you as much, but I guarantee you that you’ll still be moved. Jeri’s writing is breath taking and brilliant and like Karen (you all know Karen…) said, it just has this “lulling rhythm” which it the perfect way to describe it. This short story is the most incredible thing I have ever read. No. Lie.
P dot s- I LOVE JERI & LOGAN FOREVVVERRRR!!!
also go pick up Enthralled in September!! woot!
